The brand's history traces back to 1919, when Shiro Kayaba founded Kayaba Research Center specialized in the manufacturing of hydraulic dampers. A commitment to innovation and excellence helped KYB to become what it is today – a global leader in manufacturing ride control parts that has 32 facilities in 21 countries, 15 manufacturing plants, and can boast the largest production volume of any automotive shock absorber manufacturer in the world.

In 1974, a sales subsidiary known as KYB Americas Corporation was established in the U.S., with the headquarters in Indiana concerned with North American aftermarket distribution of automotive suspension system components. The subsidiary operates from three facilities located in North America, with two in Chicago and one in California. By expanding its operations and manufacturing capacity in North America, KYB continues to increase market share in the U.S. Beyond the United States, KYB has manufacturing facilities in Japan and Europe. The global headquarters are based in Tokyo, Japan.

KYB builds shocks and struts utilizing next generation technologies and using advanced, highly automated manufacturing lines that can switch from producing one strut to another in just 15 seconds.
